Unabashedly confident, George mounts the social ladder and in the end, we find him enlisting for active service. Follows the career of George Cannon, Hilda Lessway's son, as he mounted through succeeding strata of literary, artistic, political, and fashionable society. It ends with his enlistment and training for active service.
