Heber Averil’s struggles as a gay Mormon begin on his mission to pre-World War II France where, to his delight and horror, he has his first sexual experience — with a man! When Hitler sweeps across Europe, Heber returns to Utah where his demanding conscience compels him to follow the mandates of the church and deny his desire for men.
