On Grace and Free Will is brief treatise on this topic. Throughout Church history this has been a topic of much debate–since doctrine on this topic attempts to understand divine and human causality.
Like many treatises written in the Early Church, the occasion of this text is due to recent events that required Augustine's intervention. There had been "dissensions" among some which sought to "defend free will" to the expense of God's sovereign will. On the other hand, some so focussed on God's grace, that they diminished human will.
Augustine, here, intervenes to correct the skewed theology in the churches, addressing both sides of the argument. In this treatise, is a rare, summary presentation of Western theology's brightest mind on the subject of causality.
